Maple Keepsake Urn
A particularly stunning length of spalted maple became the inspiration for this maple keepsake urn.
First turned on a lathe to shape and hollowed. The piece was removed from the lathe and the partially cloven sections were carved into the front and back. Pyrography (wood burning) was used to create additional decorative lines in that hollow that mimic tree branches, plant roots, DNA, cilia, and other forms from the natural world.
