What is “chopstick”?

This I knew only in the English sense.  In sitting down to write this I realized that I had no idea of the etymology of the word, the actual asian names, or much of the history of the tool.  While these hair chopsticks I made are not for food and instead setting long hair in place, Wikipedia set me straight.

They are turned from the upcycled drops from another dog trophy project that was a collaboration with Katy Bergman Cassell:dog trophy enamel woodworking

The Jatoba (or Brazilian Cherry) was specced by the client.  Otherwise I would have never had the chance to work with this wood.  Super hard, even, and strong.

Saving scraps is a bad/good habit that just about every woodworker gets into.  Space becomes an issue and eventually one has to say goodbye to dust-caked scraps that have never been called to a project.  These, though, I was never going to let them hit our woodstove.

They are also the close the last page of our Hatchfund project, being the final perks for some very generous donors.
