Shelley explains how vacation memories can be turned into a fine art, visual celebration that can beautify ones home and keep good times close to heart.  Chris received this as a Christmas gift and is still trying to decide where in his office he is going to hang it (since it is has been under renovation since 2010).
Chris and I left our children in the loving care of family members last summer so that we could go on an adventure in Italy! We enjoyed our first couple of days in Vernazza, soaking up the cliff-top views of the fabulous blue water, floating in the Mediterranean Sea, collecting (oops, was this wrong?) beautiful, jewel-like rocks from the shore, and sniffing every flower on the way in hopes of finding the one making the air smell sweet. The letter “I” is for Italy and the photo transfers are of the two of us…separate photos, but arranged together. The hand-painted flowers across the top are the flowers, Ginestra or Rated Brooms. The rock is from my stolen collection. Side panels depict the colors of the sea and the stone pattern in the Piazza in Sienna.
Letter Block Mementos are collages of rich imagery that serve as homages to their subjects. Every choice is meaningful. Each has a letter of focus, a photo transfer usually depicting a face or figure, and a hand-drawn or painted item of significance. Additional elements are used to embellish the sides – each repeated. Typically these have been simple designs, patterns, textures, or more photo transfers. Each piece is sprayed with a glossy coat of finish and can be hung or displayed on a flat surface.
